Celebrating One Year of Europinion

From the Founder and Managing Director, Will Kingston-Cox

This past year has been nothing short of transformative, laying down the foundations for a future steeped in impactful journalism and meaningful dialogue. We have achieved far more than I had imagined when I launched Europinion to provide a platform for truly open, honest journalism, and that is testament to our writers and readers. As such, we remain more committed, more focused, and more passionate than ever. Our journey has been marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence in journalism, all of which have fortified our commitment to promoting open, honest dialogue. This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of our team, of which has been invaluable in making Europinion what it is today.

From the outset, our mission has been clear: to create a platform where voices from across the political spectrum can engage in rigorous, respectful discourse. Over the past year, Europinion has achieved several significant milestones to this end. We were honoured to collaborate with the European Parliament at the European Youth Events in Berlin and Forli, which provided invaluable insights from young people about their wants and needs from contemporary journalism, and fostered greater understanding on an eclectic array of issues affecting the world. These events underscored our role as a vital conduit for informed dialogue and policy discussion.

Our collaboration with the University of Oxford through a thought-provoking webinar on the future of Transnistria was another highlight of the year. This event brought together leading experts and engaged our audience in an enriching discourse on a critical topic not often raised in mainstream discussions. It was a testament to our dedication to spotlighting lesser-covered events and our commitment to bridging the gap between academia and the public through accessibility.

Moreover, our presence in heart of British politics was further solidified with two interviews conducted in Westminster, with Baroness Natalie Bennett and Lord Syed Kamall respectively. These interviews allowed us to bring firsthand accounts of political developments and insights directly to our readers, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted source of journalism and analysis.

A particularly significant milestone was our participation in a careers event with the prestigious Sciences Po School of Journalism. Sharing the platform with esteemed organisations such as the BBC, the Financial Times, and CNN was an honour that reflected our growing reputation in the media industry. This event not only allowed us to connect with the next generation of journalists, but also, pertinently, allowed us to share our vision and values with future media leaders.

As we move forward, we are buoyed by the support of nearly 2,000 LinkedIn faithful and a robust, engaged daily readership. These numbers are not just metrics; they are a reflection of the trust and confidence our audience places in us. They inspire us to continue pushing the boundaries of journalism, to strive for greater transparency, and to hold ourselves to the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

The past year has been foundational and successful, setting the stage for even greater achievements and a more meaningful impact. As we embark on our second year, we do so with renewed vigour and an unwavering commitment to our mission. The momentum we have built propels us forward, ready to make an even greater impact in the political world by promoting and facilitating open, honest dialogue. Together, we will continue to champion the values that define us and drive the change we wish to see.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible team whose dedication and conscientiousness has been the backbone of our success. To our Editorial Team, your commitment to excellence in journalism has set the standard for our platform. To our Media and Communications Team, your creativity and strategic acumen have amplified our voice and reach, and continue to do so. To all our contributing writers, your insightful and powerful contributions have been the heart and soul of our platform. Your voices have enriched our content and driven our mission forward. To our loyal readership, thank you for your unwavering support and engagement. Your trust and enthusiasm inspire us and validate the work we do. Thank you all for being an integral part of our journey.

I am particularly indebted to our Editor-in-Chief, Cyrus Larcombe-Moore, who has been indispensable in helping transform Europinion into the platform it is today: ready to grow exponentially and solidify its position as a pioneer of open, honest journalism. Countless hours of meetings, ideation, and strategising (and having to put up with me), Cyrus has remained a steadfast partner throughout. Onwards and upwards!

From the Editor-in-Chief, Cyrus Larcombe-Moore

Nearly a year ago I joined Europinion as a writer. I was given the opportunity to share my thoughts, my opinions, my politics with our readership and at no point (as someone who is decidedly left wing) was I told no. My perspective was welcomed and given a soap box by this platform.

In October, I became the Editor-in-Chief because Europinion is a platform that encourages the development of its members. Our focus on nurturing talent is crucial to our success and is how I became Editor-in-Chief. Every member of each team is developing their skills and being given guidance and, as such, we all grow as Europinion grows. It's a joy to run the editorial team. Being an editor here is more than just doing the edit, it's about platforming important stories, empathising with how others see the world, and giving each writer a soapbox from which to express themselves.

Looking ahead, we always aim to bolster our editorial standards and broaden our reach. We work every day to ensure our members have the tools and knowledge to excel. Only by investing in our team's growth can we ensure that Europinion continues to produce the best articles time and time again. Euopinion is an organisation genuinely committed to maintaining an environment full of diverse voices who can contribute equally, shaping a better informed and more engaged readership.

But, there’s always more to do. Our politics, our journalism, and much of society is suffering. Encouraging open honest discourse allows us to remedy what has become a toxic politics. We have to listen to each other, to really engage with other opinions and by empathising with people, we better understand why people think the things they do. Assumptions are dangerous and they fail to better our communities. It’s our job to leave the world a better place than which we find it and Europinion is working to do this, to give you as a reader, listener, viewer, audience member, a chance to really understand how diverse a species we are. Our communities are not homogeneous and neither are our opinions.

In our second year, we will continue to champion our members and provide them with the kinds of opportunities we all dream of having. How many first steps, first articles, first edits are yet to come? Who knows but it’s going to be a lot! To think, we've had members travel Europe, talk to Stella Assange, interview major political figures, work with think tanks from across the globe and so much more all because Europinion genuinely values its contributors. Our commitment to open dialogue remains steadfast and between Europinion's members and its audience, we can learn to listen, empathise and forge a better world.

Europinion stands as a testament to the value of collaboration, of welcoming diverse perspectives, and of dedicated journalism. Our platform is built on the belief that every voice matters, and it is only through exposing ourselves to a multitude of voices that we can get to grips with the complexities of our world and its politics. This past year has not only solidified our foundation but has set in motion the growth of our whole organisation.

To think, I started at Europinion as a writer and have now travelled Europe, been to Parliament, engaged with world leading academics, and learnt so much about our world from our writers. Thank you to every contributor and editor that has allowed us to grow and for giving me the support I’ve needed along the way. Thank you to the readership who incentivise us to write, edit and work. And thank you to Will Kingston-Cox for giving me the opportunity to make it this far. Happy Birthday Europinion, here's to many more!
